The Story Of BFA
I had this idea once in a cafe in SOHO while on production. An idea for a book. “Be Fucking Awesome – A guide for living.” So I registered the url befuckingawesome.com and thought about it more here and there but basically couched it and sat on it. I was busy after all – trying to become a famous advertising creative. I just filed it under “Oh, one day I’d get around to writing the book or whatever. It’ll be fun.” But it never really went away. I always loved the idea. So after a year or so of doing nothing with it, I had my partner at the time, one of the most talented Art Directors to ever breathe air – Mr. John Parker – do up a Corporate Identity. This was about four years ago. And once that was done… I couched it again. Busy. Flash forward to about a year ago. Where another iteration of BFA came to me: What if instead of just thinking of it as a book or some buttons and T-shirts I thought of BFA as more of a production company? A place whose mission was to make things that helped the world Be Fucking Awesome? It sounded good. And right around that time I also had my first idea for a “production.” A social network not for narcissism, but for doing good. A site where instead of posting updates and news about what you liked or what you were wearing or eating or where you were going for the weekend or how loaded you got – you posted good deeds (Fucking Awesome deeds), the world voted on the value of those “FAdeeds,” and those votes contributed to your Awesome Quotient. It sounded good. I was excited. I brought in some talented help and we started. All there was to do was design it, develop it and make it a reality. Easy, right? Well, nothing worthwhile is easy. And this little project has proved this idiom in spades. But we’re almost there. We’re almost set to launch it to the world. And when we do, the first “BFA Production” shall be born: BeFuckingAwesome.com. We’re pretty fucking excited. Where will we go from here? Well, we’re open to other productions, for sure. We have some ideas cooking already. And of course we still want the world to be able to wear BFA buttons and the t-shirts too. So our plate is full. And it’s looking tasty. Thanks for reading about BFA, and you stay FA.
